Backup Generation
In partnership with Stowers Machinery Corporation, Seven States offers special pricing on a variety of Caterpillar backup-generation products. The suite of environmentally compliant Caterpillar offerings includes emergency backup generation that can also serve as a prime power solution for load management. Our team can evaluate a customer’s power production needs and design a backup generation solution based on their site conditions, load characteristics, and required performance.
In 2019, Seven States procured two 1 MW generators and one 423 KW generator for an LPC to utilize as backup power at its three service centers. Financing and leasing options are available and evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
Combined Heat & Power (CHP)
Seven States offers customers a natural gas combined heat and power (CHP) solution for those with both power and thermal energy requirements. CHP plants recover otherwise wasted thermal energy from power generation and repurposes it for heating. Customers are best served to install CHP as part of a new construction project or in replacing aging boilers. CHP has three main benefits – energy cost savings, increased reliability and improved sustainability. It captures heat, using energy that would otherwise be wasted. Seven States provides project management services for CHP solutions, from concept to completion with design, procurement, installation and maintenance services. Financing and leasing options are available and evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
In 2019, Seven States worked with White Harvest Energy to complete a feasibility study for an LPC considering CHP for a wastewater treatment plant.
DERMS: Distributed Energy Resource Management System
Through a partnership with Open Access Technologies, Inc. (OATI), Seven States offers a specially priced distributed energy resource management system (DERMS) for load management, load forecasting, voltage reduction, and features load reduction programs for C&I customers. The tool can interact and control DER assets such as solar, backup generators, battery storage, water heaters, smart thermostats, EV chargers, etc. The software-based solution has four current and future applications: (1) managing Seven States’ existing Aggregated Demand Response (ADR) program, (2) manage LPC specific load management programs to balance peak demands, (3) potentially replace the existing Enel X program through TVA, and (4) aggregate programs delivered to TVA. Seven States has a partnered with EPB of Chattanooga to provide support to LPCs on program setup and software operation.
DERMS software is affordably priced, making it available to LPCs of any size to develop a cost savings program using the technology. Upfront configuration expenses can be financed and incorporated into the monthly subscription rate. The DERMS solution is offered only to our LPC members.
Electric Vehicles & Chargers
Seven States partners with multiple electric-vehicle (EV) charging manufacturers to offer specially priced charging solutions that help our customers serve their consumers. Our partners include ChargePoint, SemaConnect and Clipper Creek. We offer a variety of chargers for every application. Level 2 chargers for residential, small commercial and fleet management. DC fast charging solutions for those travelers looking to get back on the road quickly. Home chargers at reduced pricing that our customers can then sell to their consumers. In 2019, Seven States joined the Drive Electric TN effort to install Level 2 and DC fast chargers along the interstate and highway network in Tennessee. Our team offers procurement, installation and commissioning services for EV chargers. Financing and leasing options are available.
As of February 2021, Seven States has installed more than 80 EV chargers across the Valley, with an average of one new installation each week. The installations include both Level 2 and DC fast chargers with a combination of purchased and leased deployments.
Solar
Seven States Power works with its customers to design, develop and deploy customized approaches to solar applications such as solar canopies, community solar, and solar arrays for commercial and industrial customers. Our team leverages experience and expertise to help customers realize their vision. Our team can guide members through the design of customer-facing programs, location decisions, provider selection, installation management, and connection to the distribution and/or transmission systems. For customers who do not have the internal management resources to realize their solar vision, we offer turnkey services to design, develop and deploy solar projects. Financing and leasing options are available, and we provide optionality for customers seeking to leverage investment tax credits on new solar installations.
As of February 2021, Seven States has 6 active solar contracts with 7 LPCs. In October 2020, Seven States Power partnered with Huntsville Utilities and the U.S. Space & Rocket Center to complete Project Liftoff, a power supply flexibility project that integrates solar power, battery storage and electric vehicle (EV) chargers installed onsite at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center.
Ride Through System
Seven States partnered with RK Energy to provide a new solution to the target market which helps commercial and industrial (C&I) customers protect against the risk of power interruptions. Customers that depend on intelligent technologies, like variable speed drives (VSD), are especially vulnerable to the risks of a blink in their power supply. By one estimate, industrial and digital businesses lose up to $45.7 billion per year due to power interruptions. This capacitor-based energy storage device has two applications: RK Energy’s Ride-through-System (RTS) protects C&I customers, giving them the ability to successfully maintain normal operation of VSDs during short or prolonged power disturbances. This ability to maintain consistent power can help customers reduce costly scrap and downtime caused by multiple power fluctuations throughout the year.
RK Energy’s electric “Regenergy” system may also help C&I customers reach sustainability goals. By recycling this otherwise wasted energy, traditionally burned off as waste heat on dynamic braking resistors, power consumption and peak motor loads are reduced. By lowering power consumption and the peak motor loads, C&I customers may achieve long-term carbon neutrality initiatives and reduce demand charges for the LPC. Financing and leasing options are available and evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
