Electric Vehicles & Chargers
Seven States partners with multiple electric-vehicle (EV) charging manufacturers to offer specially priced charging solutions that help our members serve their consumers. We offer a variety of chargers for every application, as well as fleet optimization and electrification services. Level 2 chargers for small commercial and fleet management. DC fast charging solutions for those travelers looking to get back on the road quickly. Home charging solutions for residential and multi-family applications. In 2019, Seven States joined the Drive Electric TN effort to install Level 2 and DC fast chargers in the Upper Cumberland region as part of a U.S. Department of Energy-funded project.
As of 2022, Seven States has installed more than 110 EV chargers across the Valley, with an average of one new installation each week. The installations include fleet, Level 2 and DC fast chargers with a combination of purchased and leased deployments. Our team offers procurement, installation and consulting services on EV charger design and deployment.
Solar + Storage
Seven States Power works with its members and their customers to design, develop and deploy customized approaches to solar applications such as solar canopies, community solar, and solar arrays for commercial and industrial customers. Our team leverages experience and expertise to help customers realize their vision. Our team can guide members through the design of customer-facing programs, location decisions, provider selection, installation management, and connection to the distribution and/or transmission systems. For members who do not have the internal management resources to realize their solar vision, we offer turnkey services to design and deploy solar projects. Financing and leasing options are available, and we provide optionality for members seeking to leverage investment tax credits on new solar installations.
In October 2020, Seven States Power partnered with Huntsville Utilities and the U.S. Space & Rocket Center to complete Project Liftoff, a power supply flexibility project that integrates solar power, battery storage and electric vehicle (EV) chargers installed onsite at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center In November 2021, Seven States partnered with EPB and Rock City to design and construct a unique solar arbor to provide sustainable energy resources to Rock City Gardens.Cybersecurity
Our members are deploying more Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) and enjoying greater flexibility to build distributed generation assets than ever before. With each new grid-connected device there are both opportunities and risks to the distribution system. Each interconnection that communicates openly across the grid creates an entry point for potential hackers on the network. That is why we are working with national experts to understand vulnerabilities, qualify potential vendors and develop a turnkey cybersecurity solution to protect the integrity of systems across the Valley.
In partnership with APPA, NRECA and TVA, we are sharing information about vendors and learning about distribution-level products and services. Through the collective wisdom of these national organizations, our peers nationwide and our members here in the Tennessee Valley, we are working to develop the most effective solutions for protecting member assets, systems, and ultimately the consumers they serve.
Middle Mile Network
High-speed broadband is essential infrastructure for modern life and critical to the economic prosperity of communities throughout the Tennessee Valley. Still, for all of the promise it holds, communities in each of our seven states remain without fiber optic internet service. That is because many of our members – municipals and cooperatives alike – are challenged by the gap that exists between the need for service and the investment necessary to become a high-speed broadband provider.
Seven States Power, through a member-led working group, is building a middle mile fiber network solution that offers all 153 local power companies a connectivity point to the Valley’s fiber optic backbone. Connecting to broadband infrastructure already established throughout the region minimizes the capital investment for our members wishing to bring high-speed internet to their business and their community.
Fiber interconnectivity enables new revenue streams through broadband services to those already connected to the electric system, while also offering business enhancements for the power company. Companies with fiber networks enjoy operational efficiencies through customer connectivity, load management, data backup, emergency communications and more while enhancing reliability for consumers.
Seven States Power is uniquely positioned to move in and out of member territories, extending the fiber optic network and enabling you to realize your broadband vision.
