U.S. Department of Energy Opens Registration for Free Cybersecurity Training for Utilities
October 11, 2023

Our grid is under cyberattack and the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) is inviting your LPC to attend a free, 3-day training that has been used to train utilities to defend against cyber-attacks in areas of conflict. DOE has asked Seven States to share this unique opportunity with our member-owners to help harden the Valley’s grid.

Registration is open to technical practitioners from all electric utilities, including electric cooperatives, public power, investor-owned, and tribal utilities. Each of the six training events will cover the same material.

These trainings are supported by funding provided to the Office of Cybersecurity, Energy Security, and Emergency Response (CESER) under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL) and organized by CESER’s Rural and Municipal Utility Cybersecurity (RMUC) Program. Participants do not need to be from a NERC-registered utility.

Seven States is also helping to harden the grid through its Grid Cyber Protection Service (GCPS) in partnership with Huntsville-based INTUITIVE. GCPS will strengthen the entire region’s electrical grid by supporting LPCs with a full-time cybersecurity staff, vulnerability and risk assessments, continuous monitoring and reporting, managed threat detection and correlation, digital forensics, malware/ ransomware protection, threat hunting, reconnaissance, and endpoint protection. LPCs are encouraged to contact BJ Bernard at bbernard@7spc.com with any questions regarding this service.
